AGENDA & SPEAKERS

Re-inventing manufacturing through e-business

September 20th The Belfry, West Midlands

. Even when the hype is stripped away there is little doubt that the Internet is having, and will continue to have, a profound impact on traditional manufacturing models. The accelerated impact of globalisation, disintermediation and mass customisation, to name but a few, are already being felt by more and more companies. At the same time most organisations are waking up to the opportunities that e-commerce presents.

However jumping in to e-commerce unprepared can do more harm than good. Without repeatable and reliable
levels of operational effectiveness, e-commerce will only exaggerate organisational weaknesses. Unless waste and inflexibility are driven out of internal processes e-commerce initiatives will not achieve the expected cost
reductions and margin improvements. And without a change in traditional, functional behaviours companies will
not have the flexibility and adaptability to gain sustainable competitive advantage.

The third e-cognition briefing will examine the effect of e-business on manufacturing. In a focused two hour briefing these and other key issues will be addressed by some of the world’s leading experts to give you unique
insights into how manufacturing operations can be re-invented to take advantage of e-business.

Date & Venue
E-cognition 3 will be held at the Belfry, West Midlands,
on Wednesday September 20th.

Can e-business help manufacturing operations? Yes, and bring cost and efficiency improvements. Find out how.

Prerequisites for e-business in manufacturing
E-business offers huge advantages to manufacturing operations. But there is also a huge risk if companies do
not prepare carefully. Based on his considerable experience Andy Coldrick, Director of Stratabridge and former Chairman of Oliver Wight International, will discuss how companies can achieve the three fundamental prerequisites for exploiting e-business, and ensure e-commerce doesn’t turn into e-chaos:
establishing minimum thresholds of operational effectiveness
adopting lean thinking and time compression
creating a collaborative culture.

The e-enabled manufacturer
Cap Gemini Ernst & Young have worked with many well known companies to e-enable their manufacturing
operations. Martin Ellis, Executive Consultant, will share with you how they have gone about it, the factors they have had to take into consideration, the potential pitfalls they have identified and the results they have achieved.

Transforming manufacturing through e-business
For the last decade Oracle Corporation has been helping manufacturing companies to transform their operations. Oracle’s position as a leader in e-business solutions places them in a unique position to help manufacturers take advantage of e-business practices. Giuseppe Rossi, EMEA Operations Manager, will draw on Oracle’s own customer experiences to illustrate Oracle’s strategy for manufacturing, the issues to look for and the benefits that accrue.
