Ian Watmore
Head of e-government
Ian Watmore joined the eGovernment Unit in September 2004,coming from management consultants Accenture, where he was UK Managing Director. Having joined Accenture in 1980, Ian became a Partner in 1990 and was elected UK Managing Director in 2000. He has worked in both the public and private sectors, mainly in the UK and Ireland. Ian is a past President of the Management Consultancies Association, and Chairs the IT Industry Board of eSkills UK (the Sector Skills Council for IT and Telecommunications).

Transformation and innovation - the national agenda

Prior to his appointment as CEO in September 2003,he was a Managing Director of the FSA responsible for the insurance and investment sectors, as well as Conduct of Business Policy and the FSA 's consumer facing work. Since joining the FSA in June 2001,John has spearheaded a fundamental review to modernise insurance regulation in the United Kingdom. John is also Chairman of CESR-fin, a standing committee of the Committee of European Securities Regulators.

Public sector transformation through outsourcing

The public sector will continue to undergo enormous transformation in the foreseeable future. Former Business Services Director, Inland Revenue, John Yard has overseen one of the most high profile public sector outsourcing contracts and has over ten years' experience in managing supplier/customer relationships with the biggest names in the consulting industry. More recently he has been working as a consultant and seen the issues from both sides of the fence. John explains what it is like to be the customer and says "At the end of the day if you are going to hand over the IT underpinning your business to someone else to run on your behalf, you had better be very sure!"

The future of financial services
Richard Kimber
Chief Executive, first direct
Richard joined first direct as its chief executive in November 2004 after six years and a variety of international roles within the HSBC Group. Prior to HSBC he worked in the stockbroking industry in Australia including general manager for Macquarie Equities -one of the largest full service firms in that market. His first role in HSBC was managing director of HSBC InvestDirect where he launched the business for HSBC and grew it to profitability. Then he moved to Hong Kong to head e-business in the Asia-Pacific region and from there went to New York as global head of e-marketing, where he led HSBC 's strategic alliance with Yahoo! for three years. He has an MBA (1992)from Macquarie University in Sydney and originally studied psychology and statistics in his undergraduate degree.

Arindom Basu has extensive experience in assisting clients in defining and implementing offshoring strategies across a number of industry sectors including financial services, manufacturing and retail. Andrew Gowers
Editor of the Financial Times
Andrew Gowers is the fifth editor of the FT in half a century and the youngest since Sir Gordon Newton in 1949.Just like those before him, he has been promoted to the top job after being imbued with the customs and traditions of the FT. He has spent 22 years with the paper in a variety of posts since starting in the foreign department. Most notably, he stood in as acting editor for 12 months in 1997 and was given the task of launching a new German language newspaper, The Financial Times Deutschland, in Hamburg from a standing start.
