You probably know how quickly the ASP revolution is happening.
The opportunity is already in place to reach entirely new
markets faster than ever before . Those markets include
whole new customer types, but the pressure from competitors
who are already implementing online makes it important to
act quickly .
the opportunity
The
customers of Application Service Providers get a compelling
proposition. Access to the latest applications from any
device over any network securely, enabling them to focus
on their core business activities.
That's fine for your customers but how does this affect
your business as a software supplier?
According to IDC, spending on the services for ASP offerings
- best of breed applications such as financial, HR, e-commerce,
analytical applications and CRM - has been calculated to
grow from $10 million in 1999 to $1.2 billion in 2005.This
represents a five-year compound annual growth of 130%.
the reality
Recent
research has indicated that 62% of UK software vendors consider
ASP to be a medium to TOP priority issue in their company.
However, close to 70% have yet to develop go-to-market strategies
and implement an online rental offering including : commercial
terms and conditions, service level agreements, pricing
models, security, response times, sales force readiness,
positioning and how to make it profitable.
the future
Service
provision will become the major profit contributor and ASP
or Online Rental will be a key component in the survival
of a software company.
During the 90's specialists such as EDS proved the outsourcing
model on a one-to-one basis. Now ASP's are delivering on
a one-to-many basis. This will fundamentally change the dynamics
of software purchasing and delivery forever.
