Tendering LINUX in the public sector

As a council leader and an M.P with a doctorate in Logic. John Pugh is conducting research into government tendering processes in the IT field and the influences upon it. A former board member of a publicly financed computer recycling agency, he runs SUSE Linux in his office and has taken an increasingly sceptical view of e-procurement and the number of public sector IT contracts that consume taxpayers money.

John Sarsgard is responsible for the sales and support of IBM hardware, middleware, and services for Linux worldwide. John and his team, and the geographic IBM units they support, help customers select applications appropriate for Linux, decide on the infrastructure needed, and develop implementation plans that meet their business needs.

Formerly General Manager, Business Innovation Services, Americas within IBM Global Services, he was responsible for 16,000 consultants within Canada, the United States and Latin America. Today he is responsible for the strategy, product development, marketing, advertising, and sales of IBM's activities in grid computing: doing distributed heterogeneous computing over the Internet using open standards.
