Thomas A. Hawk
General Manager, Grid Computing for the IBM Corporation
Mr. Hawk has been in the Information Technology industry for over 19
years and is currently General Manager, Grid Computing for the IBM Corporation.
In this capacity, he is responsible for the strategy, product development,
marketing, advertising, and sales of IBM's activities in grid computing:
doing distributed heterogeneous computing over the Internet using open
standards. His experiences include product marketing, marketing management,
sales management, consulting and systems integration and practice management
involving a wide variety of clients in both size and industry affiliation.
He has a broad set of skills in business visioning, strategy, business
development, general management, and executive relationship development.
Professional Experience
Mr. Hawk was General Manager, Business Innovation Services, Americas
within IBM Global Services. He was responsible for the consulting and
systems integration business within Canada, the United States and Latin
America. This business was comprised of a $2.5B P&L, multiple competencies
and service lines, and 16,000 consultants.
As General Manager, Integration Services, U.S., he functioned as the Systems
Integration Competency Leader and Consulting Profession Marketplace Leader
for Systems Consulting for the Americas.
As Vice President, Strategy and Operations, Integration Services, U.S.,
Mr. Hawk was responsible for the overall financial management of Integration
Services as well as in the deployment and management of several key programs.
These programs include the new industry national practice initiatives
and the coordination of these initiatives with the e-business services
strategies, the deployment of the SI professional development framework,
sales and marketing strategies, and the continued transformation of Integration
Services.
As Vice President, Integration Services, Central Area, Mr. Hawk had executive
responsibility for a 14 state area including over 800 I/T professionals
and revenue objectives approaching $.5B. Mr. Hawk oversaw all consulting
and systems integration marketing, delivery of integrated I/T services,
developing and maintaining client relationships, and management processes
of financial and business operations.
Mr. Hawk was Vice President, Integration Services, Great Lakes Area responsible
for a geography of five states and an employee population of over 350
professionals. Duties included executive responsibility for marketing,
service delivery, and overall business management.
Mr. Hawk was Director, Consulting and Services, Michigan Office, responsible
for 100 professional consultants, systems architects and I/T specialists.
His accomplishments included significant market expansion, new clients,
and the development of a very successful Automotive Industry initiative.
Mr. Hawk held dual roles of Practice Leader and Operations Manager for
the Consulting and Services Organization within the Great Lakes Area.
In these roles, Mr. Hawk was responsible for Client Server business development,
strategy and market development of image and workflow products, management
of all business operations processes including opportunity management,
resource deployment, quality assurance, and professional development.
Mr. Hawk has also held management positions in product marketing, professional
services and strategic outsourcing.
