Market Overview:
Mike
Davies
Lead Analyst,
Butler Group Abstract
In this session Mike will reflect on Butler Group's
research, and analysis of the Enterprise Portals market
in Western Europe, giving Butler Group's uncompromising
opinion on:
* The value propositions of an enterprise portal
* Why it should be considered core IT infrastructure
* How it can be at the same time a strategic solution
- and provide a tactical advantage.
* Lessons for successful deployment and realisation
of returns.
* The things that work.
* The reasons for failure.
* The elements of portal functionality that customers
will be looking for in the next two years
* The potential for the enterprise portal to be an 'enabling
technology' for organisations of all complexions.
* Segments that have most to gain through deployment
of a portal.
* Why the portal will not replace Windows as the standard
desktop.

Portals and Today's Enterprise: A Practical Overview
Enzo
Greco
IBM WW Senior Portal Sales Strategist
It used to be that 10 people would have 20 opinions
of Portals. Now, 2 people could generate those 20 opinions!
Rather than reflecting a confused market, this observation
instead points to the myriad ways Portals can and are
being used within enterprises. This session will cover
three major topics: "Why Portals? Why Now?"
which will address why there is so much interest and
activity in Portals today, particularly compared with
just a few short years ago. "The Three Portal
Imperatives" will review the dynamics and imperatives
of the Portal market, covering those factors driving
Portal adoption and an overview of expected benefits.
The three major types of Portals will be presented,
neatly mapped onto three key resources all organizations
have: Information, Applications and People. "So
You Want a Portal" will offer practical advice
on approaching a Portal project, including Return on
Investment analysis, organizational structure and tips
for getting started. Customer vignettes and anecdotes
will be used liberally throughout the session.

Portal Solutions for eHR
- Business Audience
As a growing number of companies seek to shift the focus
of their HR function away from routine transactional
activities to more strategic issues, e-HR solutions
are increasingly being harnessed to streamline and automate
administrative HR processes and services. Portals can
play a leading role in these changes, providing employees,
line managers and the HR function itself with easy online
access to interactive, self-service functionality, delivering
a new channel through which to communicate and collaborate.
