Conspectus Summit on Outsourcing - "ACHIEVING THE RIGHT RESULTS"
The recent Conspectus Summit conference on Outsourcing featured speakers
among both buyers and suppliers of outsourcing services, as well as external
consultants. But whatever their perspective, the speakers emphasised time
and again the importance of relationship building in outsourcing success.
This newswire sums up opinion from the conference in a series of
easy-access articles. The theme of ‘achieving the right results’ from
outsourcing partnerships is timely, coming against a background of growing
complexity in the market – as outsourcing spreads beyond IT to finance,
HR and back-office processing, and contracts extend from those based on
simple service level agreements to those built around shared risk and
reward.
However, no business can walk away from the task of dealing with
outsourcing’s growing complexity. Figures from Gartner suggest that by
2007, 56% of IT services will be outsourced. It’s a fad that’s here to
stay.

Industry Reports: INTEGRATION TECHNOLOGY
The squeeze on organisations to extract more value out of their IT
investments has pushed integration technology to the top of the corporate
agenda in recent years. Maybe it is a sign of the increasing sophistication
of corporate end users, as well as the greater simplicity of the software,
that boardrooms can now happily get involved in an IT area that was previously
irredeemably 'techie'.
At the same time, integration product sets have helped widen their
own appeal by incorporating new accessible areas of automation, like business
process management, workflow and business activity monitoring. It all
holds out the hope that organisations can build a flexible technology
infrastructure that allows them to react rapidly to business change -
this industry report examines various aspects of how this dream can be
made a reality.

PMP Research - "A FRESH LOOK AT THE MAINFRAME"
After years of the mantra of distributed computing the wheel is slowly
turning and enterprises are beginning to take a critical look at how they
architect their IT infrastructure. Simply deploying more and more distributed
resources has resulted in a level of complexity that is difficult to manage,
often under utilised and increasingly expensive to maintain.
No wonder that reducing this complexity and optimising the use
of IT is high on the agenda for most CIO's today. This is why many businesses
are now taking a fresh look at how they can use mainframes to make their
IT environment more controllable, secure and cost effective.
PMP Research asked four leading industry analysts to give their
views on why the mainframe still has a critical role to play in today's
IT environment.

Conspectus Summit on Enterprise Integration - "MAKING IT REAL, MAKING
IT HAPPEN"
Few people could have predicted a few years ago that enterprise integration
technology would ever escape from the ‘techie’ realm to become a mainstream
business cost saver.
But with the growing need to improve information sharing across
different areas of the business, and react more rapidly to regulatory
and business change, integration technology has come into its own.
However, while enterprise application integration (EAI) software
is designed to simplify IT management and datasharing, there are still
a number of business and technicalissues to address in the drive towards
‘joined up computing’.
A recent Conspectus Summit event, sponsored by Capgemini
and Oracle, discussed the latest thinking in this area – and this report
highlights some of the key presentations and findings from the event.

Conspectus Summit on Outsourcing - "RETAINING CONTROL"
The mood among corporate IT buyers is as sunny as it's been for years:
the economy has steadied, the IT market has recovered and many organisations
are investing in technology for competitive advantage.
But one thing everyone agrees on is that we will never return to
the free-spending 1990s: corporate IT purchasers are a bit older and wiser
- and outsourcing typifies that hard-won experience. Outsourcing is the
one area of IT that guarantees cost savings, and that's why it's been
the one IT boom area in recent years.
But now companies are learning to demand more of their outsource
service suppliers: not only cost savings and guaranteed service levels,
but innovation and service improvements.
A recent Conspectus Summit, sponsored by Computacenter,
discussed these latest trends - and this report captures some of the key
presentations from the event. We hope it will be a useful addition to
your IT knowledge bank.
