Need to know more about consulting opportunities afforded by wireless mobile data solutions?

With cell phone usage demonstrating record market growth throughout the world, the integration of voice and data in mobile handsets, organisers and personal digital assistants (PDAs) is happening at pace. Adoption of this technology in corporate and consumer markets will create further massive opportunity to upgrade use of existing mobile technology, both at work and at play, for the world’s estimated 1 billion mobile users.

Significant progress has been made since the late 1980s towards the development of future generations of mobile communication concepts. The integration of voice and data is now available and developing rapidly. The arrival of General Packet Radio Services (GPRS) and the third-generation Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) will make mobile data systems a truly viable option for business.

The opportunities for carriers, application software providers, hardware platform providers, consultants and systems integrators are considerable and the onus is therefore upon would-be players in the mobile data space to demonstrate an understanding of where the true commercial applications will lie.

BT, Compaq and Microsoft

The second in a series of Consultants’ Adviser briefings hosted by PMP, publisher of Conspectus and International Consultants’ Guide, will address the issues surrounding the effective deployment of wireless data applications from the perspective of three key industry players, BT, Compaq and Microsoft - focusing on the role of consultants and systems integrators (CSIs).

The seminar will feature an early glimpse of the new wireless mobile data service that has been brought to the market by the joint venture between BT/Concert Communications and Microsoft. This service has been undergoing trials in the UK during the second half of 1999 - known as Project Nomad. It will also offer an insight into Compaq’s strategy for mobility solutions.
